The Negro Motorist Green Book was a paperback guide published for black motorists traveling in the United States in an era when they might be denied service or even find themselves threatened in many locations. The creator of the guide, Harlem resident Victor H. Green, began producing the book in the 1930s as a part-time project, but growing demand for its information made it an enduring business.
